Queen's Health System Coordinator, Quality Assurance - Sterile Processing (Full-Time, 40, Varied Shifts) in Honolulu, Hawaii

RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for quality assurance and quality improvement programs and activities within the sterile processing department of The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC), including development, implementation and compliance with department policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Standing, walking, kneeling, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting usual weight of 15 pounds up to maximum weight of 50 pounds, pushing/pulling usual weight up to maximum 5 pounds of force, carrying maximum weight of 50 pounds.

• Frequent: stooping/bending, reaching above, at and below shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions, gripping of object, standing and walking for prolong periods.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Subjected to heat while wearing protective uniform and working in decontam.

• Subjected to noise/vibration from sterilizers and equipment.

• Frequently exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals, communicable diseases and body fluids.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required.

• Academic background with courses in general and biologic science preferred.

B. EXPERIENCE:

• Three (3) years experience in sterile processing, preferably in a comparable medical center.

• Experience to demonstrate the following:

o Strong knowledge of sterilization techniques and processes, infection control, microbiology, supply and inventory control.

o Extensive knowledge and experience in surgical instrumentation and medical supplies in an acute care setting.

o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

o Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

o Proficient in the use of computer systems and software used in quality assurance and sterile processing.
