POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Education Coordinator's duties require a graduate degree in nursing and license as an APRN and/or APRN Rx certification, extensive clinical knowledge and school nurse experience. They are responsible for the overall planning, implementation, management and evaluation of clinical/medical and nursing education for Hawaii Keiki. They must possess a working knowledge of the program, program policies and procedures, and evidence-based practices (EBP). They develop training sessions, with a focus on implementation and evaluation. They collaborate with the University of Hawaii at Manoa, School of Nursing (NAWSON), Department of Education (DOE), Department of Health (DOH), local hospitals, higher education partners and UHP. Using diplomacy, sensitivity, and subject matter expertise, they address and mitigate concerns when faced with resistance to new methodologies, organizational conflicts and competing priorities in order to achieve program goals and objectives. With oversight of the simulation program, in support of healthcare provider readiness and Individual Critical Tasks (ICTs), they prepare APRNs, RNs, and Health Tech's to practice safely based on their scope of practice and the program PandPs in the school environment. They also have oversight of the development and orientation process of nursing and paraprofessional staff who are newly assigned and/or new graduates.

Meeting of the employee's professional responsibility will be in line with the duties described below and in coordination with the Employee's supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and coordinates training policies and executes training sessions to meet the program's outcomes.
  • Takes the lead in the development of clinical training events under direction of the Director of Clinical Operations.
  • Coordinates an assessment tracking system that contains, at a minimum, the following documents: periodic competency assessments; preceptor evaluations; attendance at mandatory learning sessions; and documents addressing completion of additional learning experiences.
  • Performs educational needs assessments and evaluates existing programs for effectiveness.
  • Manages gaps in training/knowledge and challenges in execution of the role, involving multiple clinical disciplines, instructional methodologies including but not limited to simulation, didactic and live patient care in classroom, simulation and patient care settings.
  • Develops a clinical resource library of materials appropriate for presentations by HK staff to various DOE counterparts and community members.
  • In collaboration with HK leadership, ensures that all appointed preceptors meet the basic requirements to be a preceptor.
  • Coordinates the clinical orientations of new clinical staff in conjunction with the nursing supervisors and complex area leads.
  • Interfaces with UHP to support Epic accounts, coordinate insurance access and HIR access. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and trains individuals across these platforms.
  • Serves as a content expert on the various electronic systems within the program such as Healthstream, google drive, and other contracted platforms.
  • Supports development of new programs as directed by the Director of Clinical Operations.
  • Serves as a role model, content expert and mentor.
  • Assesses competency levels, performance, skill abilities, and instructs nursing personnel.
  • Meets with designated nurse preceptors to review individual and program goals, objectives, performance standards, and evaluation
  • Meets on a regular basis or as needed with the Director of Clinical Operations, island supervisors, and program managers on progress of staff on orientation and, if necessary, identifies deficiencies, planned corrective actions and other pe tinent information for the successful graduation from the orientation program.
  • Exchanges knowledge of school healthcare and clinical practice and educational concerns with nursing leadership and nursing supervisory chain. Using evidence based practice, utilizes a variety of sources to identify learning needs of clinical personnel and plans either formal or informal learning activities to address these needs.
  • Develop training for nursing and unlicensed personnel in the program.
  • Complies with FERPA/HIPAA, all legal requirements and company policies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training/Experience:

Minimum:

  • A graduate degree in nursing and license as an APRN and/or APRN Rx
  • BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Experience with the use of electronic health records and reporting
  • One year of experience in community-based health settings, school nursing or pediatric nursing.
  • One year experience in community based health settings, school nursing or pediatric nursing

Preferred:

  • Possession of an APRN and/or APRN Rx license in the State of Hawai'i.
  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)
  • Eligible for or certified as a School Nurse by the National Board for Certification of School Nurses
  • Experience working as a school nurse or in a school-based health center.

Skills Knowledge:

Minimum:

  • Knowledge of state medical information release procedures and laws.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules, regulations, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations for blood borne pathogens.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of FERPA rules, regulations, and compliance.

JOB CONDITIONS

  • Works in office, remotely and when needed in DOE schools and training venues.
  • Occasional travel to neighbor island schools is involved.
  • May require lifting items up to 30 pounds.
  • Usual hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours may be flexed to accommodate clinic schedules, and duties may require extended hours.
