Holyoke Health Center Pharmacy Clerk in Holyoke, Massachusetts

I. Summary of Position: Under the direct supervision of the pharmacist, the pharmacy clerk assists all patients and customers providing excellent customer service. Performs sales, ordering, marketing, merchandising, inventory control duties and assists other pharmacy staff members with various related duties. II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Follows department protocol for prescription intake and delivery at point of sale, consistent with Holyoke Health Center (HHC) pharmacy?s continuous quality improvement program. 2. Performs quality control functions in accordance with the Board of Pharmacy and consistent with HHC pharmacy policies and procedures to ensure the prescription received and sold matches the patient?s order. 3. Communicates promptly and politely to resolve any prescription order ambiguity or irregularity with the pharmacist, technician, and patient or patient representative. 4. Cleans and stocks workspace and equipment according to prescribed methods. 5. Serves patients/customers promptly and courteously, greets patients/customers and answers all incoming phone calls before the third ring and offers to be of assistance. 6. Accurately and promptly processes patient/customer payments and special orders. 7. Handles patient/customer complaints and coordinates the resolution of those complaints with his/her manager. 8. Regularly meets deadlines for prescription orders, reports, operational data, billing and other time sensitive activities. 9. Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients, computes charges, and enters data in computer, bills customers and/or third party payers. 10. Informs the patient or responsible person the pharmacist?s ?offer to counsel?. 11. Promptly and accurately completes all required paperwork. 12. Orders, receives and displays products and properly stocks supplies; prices merchandise and regularly rotates stock. 13. Insures cleanliness of entire store including: dusting shelves and product, vacuuming floors, sweeping, shoveling, de-icing, cleaning bathroom and removing trash; identifies and reports areas in need of maintenance and/or repair. 14. Follows department protocol and responds appropriately when identifying potential shoplifters; protects store assets and adheres to loss prevention policies and procedures. 15. Performs other duties as assigned. III. Qualifications (Education/Licensure/Certifications): A high school diploma or equivalent required. IV. Essential Skills and Experience: At least 1 year of related experience required. Excellent communication and customer service skills, both internal and external required, self-starter and a strong team player required. Previous retail/pharmacy and/or knowledge of retail pharmacy products and supplies preferred. Takes initiative and exhibits good judgment with excellent decision making and organizational skills; maintains a professional manner at all times when dealing with customers; ability to maintain confidentiality at all times when dealing with a high volume of sensitive information; daily dependability for arriving to work on time; completes all work assignments in a professional, accurate and conscientious manner. Proficient and professional basic phone skills required; familiarity with computers including Windows and Microsoft office and previous experience working with a cash register preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish required.
