Job Summary: Semi-skilled manual work in maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: ? Performs a variety of mechanical tasks which are below the journeyman level in maintaining structures and equipment. ? Maintains grounds, grading, seeding, fertilizing, spraying, lawn sweeping, trimming, loaming and liming. ? Maintains tennis courts, swimming pools and park buildings. Installs and maintains playground equipment, marks football, soccer and field hockey fields, and baseball diamonds. ? Operates motor equipment such as air compressors, gasoline saws and power mowers. ? Maintains track, floods skating areas, and removes snow from walkways, sidewalks, and ice surfaces. ? Performs other manual labor. Required Skills/Abilities: ? Three years of experience in buildings and grounds maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. ? Ability to lift heavy objects and work continuously under varying weather conditions. ? Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and maintain good relations with the public. ? Ability to make good judgment in challenging circumstances. Education, certification, licensure, or other similar requirements: ? High School Diploma or equivalent. ? Must possess a valid MA motor vehicle operator\'s license Job Environment: ? Work is performed indoors and outdoors with loud noise levels and exposure to variable weather conditions/hazards associated with surrounding environment ? The workload is subject to seasonal and weather-related fluctuations ? Errors could result in delay or loss of services, personal injury to self and/or others, damage to equipment, or monetary loss. Physical Requirements: ? Physical ability to manipulate heavy motor equipment, ? Must be able to operate a vehicle, heavy equipment, and tools. ? Tasks involve the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of driving, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which involves the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds) and occasionally heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). ? Tasks require sound, depth, and visual perception and judgment. ? Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in operating motor vehicles and heavy equipment. ? Requires the manual dexterity to handle a variety of items, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, tools, etc. Must have significant levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. ? Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergencies or tight deadlines.
