Casella Waste Systems Inc. Facilities Maintenance Technician Apprentice in Holyoke, Massachusetts

Position Summary

The Apprentice, working under a knowledgeable Casella Facilities Technician, will be responsible for providing preventative maintenance and managing the safety of all equipment while working towards completing all training requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Performs required maintenance and service by learning to interpret equipment manuals; completes all required facility safety training.Completes planned preventive maintenance on conveying systems, power transmissions and other power-driven rotating equipment in conformance with established company and federal standards in order to prevent plant breakdowns

Communicates equipment issues to operators and collaborates to find a resolution.Works inextreme environmentsthat are often “dirty”.Assists with repairs of warn defective machinery or equipment by operating machines through a trial run to protect quality of production.Uses a variety of small tools, hand-powered tools, and knives while complying with safety regulations to perform extensivemaintenanceduties.Performs daily equipment inspections anddocuments deficiencies and communicates potential issues to a supervisor in an effortto minimize any risk of unnecessary downtime.

Completes training to operate a manlift by becoming lock out tag out and fall protection qualified.Assists in establishing and adjusting work procedures to meet production deadlines and advises Plant Maintenance Manager with schedule organization.Cleans, inspects, and/or performs routine maintenance or minor repairs on recycling equipment, such as disks and belts to ensure proper functionality of MRF equipmentunder the supervision of the supervisor.Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment and be legally eligible to work in the US. It is expected that the candidate is at least 18 years of age, has the ability to work overtime when needed, and has the physical ability to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis.

Excellent listening, and problem solving skills, the ability to multitask and manage multiple repairs, a mechanical aptitude and the desire to work in a mechanical environment.
