Guardian Life Actuarial Associate in Holmdel, New Jersey

As an actuary in Guardian’s Student Program, you will develop a thorough understanding of our products and how your job responsibilities contribute towards achieving the goals of Guardian. You will assist in performing financial and non-financial analysis and make recommendations consistent with Guardian’s goals regarding growth and profitability. As part of the Student Program, expect to rotate departments every 18 to 24 months, providing the opportunity for a breadth of experience.

You are:

A self-starter who is fueled by collaboration, able to transform conceptual thinking into executable insights, who thrives in diving into business problems and using data to make decisions.

You have:

  • Either achieved or very close to the Actuarial Associate designation in the Society of Actuaries. Having passed one or more FSA exams is a plus.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree

  • Prior work experience in the actuarial field, prefer a minimum of three years.

  • Proficient in Excel

  • Some experience modeling in AXIS is a plus.

  • Understanding of the interaction between assets and liabilities in actuarial models is a plus.

  • VBA and other programming knowledge a plus

  • Ability to manage multiple projects

  • Strong analytical and communication skills

You will:

  • Identify areas of improvement regarding procedural and/or technical aspects of projects

  • Complete assignments on time and according to specifications provided by your supervisor

  • Strive towards completion of such assignments as independently as possible, recognizing situations where managerial guidance is needed

  • Actively seek and take on additional challenges to grow and develop professionally

  • Utilize internal and external data sources to better understand industry trends, clients, competitors, and the regulatory environment

Reporting Relationships:

You will report to an actuary who has obtained their Fellowship from the Society of Actuaries.

Location:

  • Preferred locations include New York, NY; Holmdel, NJ; or Bethlehem, PA.

  • Work arrangement will be hybrid: Two days per week in a local Guardian Office, and three days per week working from home.

Salary Range

$91,260.00 - $149,925.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
