Summary

The Construction Safety Specialist ensures safety and health compliance at our construction sites, a safe work environment, ensuring adherence to regulations, and upholding safety standards. Expertise will be essential in preserving the well-being of employees, clients, and contractors. The Construction Safety Specialist will have the responsibility, authority, and knowledge necessary to create and implement site-specific Safety Plans, oversee safety compliance, and conduct safety audits at construction sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of current and future construction and renovation sites

  • Ensure that all safety and health regulations and guidelines are followed on the construction sites

  • Identify potential safety and health hazards and take steps to mitigate potential hazards

  • Identify, mitigate, and track recurring construction issues and communicate them to the EHS team management

  • Track and complete all required permits as needed on all construction and renovation sites

  • Conduct daily site visits regularly during construction including: preconstruction walks, audit the “daily pre-task meeting” process for accuracy and depth, in-progress visits, and attending status and coordination meetings and report progress to the EHS team

  • Assist in Incident Investigation of all project incidents and ensure proper records are completed and submitted

  • New Hire Orientation, visitor contractor safety training

  • Participate in any external safety inspections conducted on all projects

  • Must be flexible to work off shifts as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or Environmental Health & Safety required or equivalent relevant experience

  • Preferred in one or more of the following: Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Associate Constructor (AC), Certified Professional Contractor (CPC), Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC)

Experience

  • 1 to 3+ years of experience in managing new-construction and remodelling projects

Skills

  • Knowledge of construction methods and technologies

  • Ability to adapt to unforeseen changes and plan for the accordingly.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Knowledge of construction worksite safety practices i.e. LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, Aerial Lifts, PIT, Walking Working Surfaces, HAZCOM, Incident Investigation, Fire Prevention, Permitting etc.

  • Verbal and written skills to interact with many stakeholders, such as client, HQ, EHS management, subcontractors, and suppliers

  • Knowledge of hazard assessments and job safety analysis

  • MS Office Suite
