Kaiser Permanente Supervisor, Central Sterile Processing in Hillsboro, Oregon

Job Summary:

Under indirect supervision, coordinate and supervise the daily operation of the Central Sterile Processing Department, the OR Instrument Processing area, Materials Services Department (and Patient Transport/Mail Distribution); to ensure the quality and quantity of the Department output for customer satisfaction; to follow all Infection Control and Joint Commission guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs hiring, evaluation and counseling of employees and provide input into discharge decisions. Schedule staff work assignments; coordinate orientation and training programs. Maintain staff developments records.

  • Develop and implement department policies/procedures and update existing procedures. Coordinate in-service and educational programs for staff. Conduct regular staff meetings.

  • Maintain communication with customers; assure the delivery of sterile supplies and equipment. Maintain proper inventory controls, by initiating appropriate procedures, reviewing reports on a regular basis according to written CAPPS policy and procedure.

  • Monitor and review sterilization assurance program for compliance. Maintain quality assurance program. Order supplies needed and monitor staffing and supplies to stay within allocated budget. Coordinate rental of equipment, and recharge of same to the Patient Care areas. Return equipment in a timely manner. Provide consulting support to the region on processing issues. Performs other duties as requested.

    Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in Processing/Central Supply.

  • Minimum one (1) year lead experience in Processing.

    Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

    License, Certification, Registration

  • N/A

    Additional Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of infection control standards, ETO Safety, Gluteraldehyde safety and instrument/equipment processing.

  • Strong background in surgical instrumentation.

  • Working knowledge of materials management: ordering/distribution/inventory control.

  • Understanding of the appropriate applications of current sterilization technologies.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to operate EtO, steam autoclave, Sterrad and washer/sterilizers.

  • Basic budget control, checks and balances knowledge.

  • Organization and coordination of customer service department.

  • Computer/CRT operation.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years of Central Sterile Processing work.

  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience in Central Sterile Processing.

  • Certified in Central Service Supervision or CS Management.

  • Thorough knowledge of materials supply, distribution, and ordering.

  • Basic knowledge of supervisory skill (budget, staffing).

  • Medical Terminology.

  • Self-directed and highly motivated.
