Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Materials Handler in Herlong Sierra Ordnance Depot, California

Summary About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. Employees work a 4/10 work week, Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and daily child care available. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center, (Mass transportation is available at minimal cost.) Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities. Responsibilities Performs a full range of warehouse functions in either a major segment of a large warehouse or as the principal materials handler in a small warehouse. Work is done with a high degree of independence in determining sequences, space utilization, and implementation of movement of materials. Provides guidance to lower level workers. Review of work is based on results achieved within given schedules; accuracy of balances, orderliness of area, adherence go warehouse plans, and customer service effectiveness. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. I have accomplished work which involves warehousing operations, material handling, preservation, and packing of material. Accomplished at any or all of item life-cycle: receiving, storing, assembling, disassembling, preserving, distributing, shipping and disposal. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION, REPAIR, ETC.Technical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble Shooting PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbents regularly stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Constant kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping and walking are required. Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and in close quarters. Frequently lift and move equipment, components, or material weighing up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are lifted with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Incumbent may climb in, on, and under vehicles and other large mechanized equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, camp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. May be subject to exposure of hazardous material. May require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, hard hats, gloves, masks, etc. Steel toed shoes are always required. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
