DePaul Maintenance Assistant in Henrietta, New York

Overview

The Maintenance Assistant assures that the building is maintained, in good repair, and free of hazards such as those created by damage or defective parts or operational systems.

The pay range for this opportunity is $17.00 - $17.30 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • The building is maintained in good repair and free of hazards such as those created by damage or defective parts of the building or operational systems such as plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling, communications in compliance with State and Local codes and regulations.

  • Lighting levels are adequate and void of high brightness glare and reflecting surfaces that produce discomfort. We prohibit the use of any open flame method such as candles and oil lanterns.

  • Emergency electrical service covers all exits, corridors, boiler room and fire alarm systems.

  • Heating and air-conditioning systems are capable of maintaining adequate draft free temperatures.

  • Adequate hot water is supplied, not higher than 110 degrees Fahrenheit in all resident areas. Regulatory valves control water flow.

  • Ventilation is provided through windows or mechanical ventilation or a combination of both.

  • Building and grounds are inspected regularly by fire and insurance company representatives. State and local health as well as fire control authorities also inspected regularly.

  • Storage areas kept safe and free of refuse. Combustibles are kept in closed metal containers.

  • Grounds are kept free of refuse, litter and dense undergrowth. Walks and driveway as well as exits are kept open and unlocked all year. Snow removal is sometimes contracted.

  • Pest Control factors – a pest control program is in operation with regular monthly visits from a contracted pest control company. Care is taken to use the least toxic compounds. These are stored in non-resident areas away from food preparation and storage areas.

  • Windows and doors are appropriately screened.

  • Garbage and trash are stored in separate areas and removed from the premises according to State and Local Ordinances.

  • Containers and storage area are cleaned regularly.

    OTHER DUTIES:

  • Errands, handling freight or other duties as directed by Maintenance.

  • Services not done by department personnel are contracted.

  • Preventive maintenance is scheduled and is determined by the frequency of maintenance required for equipment and parts, appliances, inside and outside structures, walls, ceilings etc.

  • Emergency and regular repair services take priority over preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Fire control equipment is inspected regularly for proper functioning. Maintenance department will schedule and follow through with monthly fire drill and consequent recording.

  • Emergency power equipment is checked periodically to assure smooth operation.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Good physical and mental health.

  • Constant standing and walking through facility during work tour.

  • Turning, stooping, bending, and lifting.

  • Moving equipment and performing other related duties.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more.

  • Must be able to carry heavy objects up and down stairs.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

  • High School diploma or GED is preferred.

  • Minimum of one-year experience in building maintenance.

  • Must have the required references and criminal record check.

  • Must be in good standing with the NYS DOH CHRC background checks.

  • Must have documentation that he/she is free from tuberculosis disease that poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others.

  • Must be willing to work with bona fide inspectors and the monitoring and licensing agencies toward meeting and maintaining the State of New York rules and regulations.

  • Prefer a working knowledge of the New York Adult Care Home Rules and Regulations, OSHA Regulations, and Sanitation Regulations

  • Must have a valid New York State driver’s license and a clean driving record according to DePaul’s policy.
