Summary:

The Clinical Registered Dietician plans diet therapy for in and out-patients as prescribed, coordinates quality assurance programs for dietary, and conducts out-patient nutritional education programs for community.

Responsibilities:

• Completes clinical duties within policy guidelines. Assesses nutritional needs and identifies nutrient requirements according to age, disease and individual needs for all nutritionally high risk patients (as identified per dept. criteria). Demonstrates clinical and age specific competency as evidenced by clinical competency tools forms, chart audits, tests, observation, etc. Performs nutritional screening, assessment, education and follow-up care for patients as assigned.

• Develops, implements, and monitors nutrition care plans and participates in the discharge planning process. Provides education and materials. Meets informally as well as one on one with patients for nutrition education and counseling. Mentors dietetic interns in the completion of the clinical internship program. Provides constructive and timely follow-up and feedback. Initiates, develops and contributes to achieving team goals. Actively participates in clinical and nutrition support team meetings.

• Provides nutrition expertise in collaboration with peers, physicians and other members of the health care team. Supports nutrition services staff in patient care issues. Assists in the development, data collection and implementation of PI activities within the department and across departments. Supports nutrition analysis and approval of menus. Supports administrative function of the department and/or hospital by involvement in such activities as: serving on committees, in-service education of staff, policy writing, DNV related activities.

• Provides excellent customer service. This is accomplished through, enhancing and/or maintaining community education initiatives related to nutrition. Examples may include articles for hospital publications or local media, health fairs, presentations, radio programs, support groups etc. Participates in National Nutrition Month activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Current licensure as a Registered Dietician as issued by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition (NCBDN)

• Credentialed as a Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) as issued by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)

Preferred

• One (1) year experience in working in a Dietetics role
