Touro College Research Lab Scientist in Henderson, Nevada

The Medical Health Sciences (MHS) Laboratory Scientist is responsible for assisting in various aspects of research activities for the MHS Program. He/she is also responsible for assisting in the Lab Diagnostics Course. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting and supporting Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine's and Master of Medical Health Sciences (MHS) faculty meet their research objectives. The research lab scientist will work under primary researchers' supervision and be responsible for many tasks supporting their research activities. Those tasks vary depending on the type of research conducted by the investigator and the field of research. This person also will be responsible for the maintenance of the laboratory equipment, training, scheduling, and lab workers' oversight within the shared research laboratory. This person will be reporting to the director of the Medical Health Sciences program.

The primary responsibilities of the position include the following:

Research Lab Scientist activities:

  • Carry out experiments and research according to protocols laid out by primary researchers

  • Collect and log experimental data

  • Conduct statistical analyses of data sets

  • Prepare graphs and spreadsheets to portray results

  • Create presentation slides and posters to help researchers present findings

  • Review print and online resources to gather information

  • Check facts, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy

Laboratory manager activities:

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory, including arrangements for calibration, repairs, and testing

  • Assist MHS faculty with setting up the workstations for teaching labs

  • Planning and monitoring of workflow

  • Proactively identify opportunities and propose improvements, efficiencies and operational modification as it relates to the laboratory

  • Arrange training for PIs and students in the laboratory

  • Validating and implementing new methods and technologies

  • Provide oversight and mentoring in the safe conduct of laboratory procedures

  • Identify and understand regulatory requirements to ensure the laboratory complies with all applicable laws and regulations pertinent to the management of the laboratory

Education:

  • Bachelors’ degree in life sciences, clinical lab science, or medical technology or at least two years of biology-lab-based experience in addition to experience listed below.

Experience:

  • At least 4 years of bench research experience which must include the following:

  • Use of common biomedical research lab techniques

  • Use of common research lab equipment

  • Managing people and maintaining laboratory equipment

  • Experience working on several research projects simultaneously.

  • Experience in research methods and analytical tools.

  • Experience in working independently on research projects.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven experience in bench research.

  • Evidence of productivity in research or other scholarly activities.

  • Excellent organization and communication skills.

  • Excellent presentation/public speaking skills.
