General Purpose:

Supervise assigned drivers and hauling activities at assigned DFA terminal. Develop and promote safety, customer service, and operational excellence.

Compensation Details : This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, AD&D, long-term disability, short-term disability, 401k, and flex spending/HSA benefits. Salary Range: $80k - $88k annual base salary.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive information from dispatch to create and execute hauling plan by assigning drivers and equipment to routes. Continually monitor daily operation to make necessary adjustments while effectively communicating with members, drivers and dispatch.

  • Create employee schedules, approve time, resolve payroll/timekeeping issues, monitor overtime, and take appropriate actions to meet established goals.

  • Work closely with other DFA transportation locations and reconfigure driver assignments to support special or critical needs.

  • Establish working relationship with DFA members on assigned farms to know producer facility and equipment to ensure optimal service.

  • Manage milk sampling process, including collection, proper driver handling, and laboratory shipment packing, in order to maintain sample integrity. Coordinate with drivers, DFA member services, producers, and laboratory personnel to resolve any issues that arise during process and facilitate collection of additional samples, if needed.

  • Own process to ensure all daily paperwork associated with each load is properly scanned and/or sent to designated location for filing per retention requirements. Maintain information for quality control and billing purposes through systems.

  • Ensure assigned employees achieve performance expectations through employee training/coaching; routine driver audits for safety, operational efficiency, and Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance; and employee annual review completions.

  • Promote safety culture by adherence to safety procedures and established company safety policy. Conduct investigations and work on corrective actions for employee accidents and employee safety concerns in conjunction with appropriate safety personnel.

  • Work closely with Human Resources to address driver counseling, disciplinary actions, new employee recruitment, employee behavior improvement, and driver training and development programs.

  • Work closely with maintenance leadership to ensure assigned equipment is maintained and cared for properly.

  • Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrive.

  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment.

  • Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety and good manufacturing practices (GMP) policies and procedures and report any nonconformity.

  • Pick up and deliver loads to cover operational needs.

  • Attend required training, including but not limited to Safety, GMP, DOT, and PMO.

  • Ensure availability to respond to emergencies or other unexpected operational requirements (i.e. nights, weekends, or holidays). Participate in on-call rotation.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • 5 years of distribution, logistics, and/or transportation experience, including 2 years in an official lead capacity

  • Certification and/or License

  • Class A commercial driver’s license in state of residence

  • Have or able to obtain tanker endorsement within 30 days of employment

  • Have or able to obtain doubles or triples endorsement as required

  • Have or able to obtain state issued milk sampler/hauler license

  • May be required to obtain and maintain other certifications and/or licenses for continued employment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of dairy industry production practices, processes, regulations, and equipment

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and personnel management

  • Knowledge of DOT, PMO, and OSHA rules and regulations

  • Skill in proficient computer usage

  • Skill in leadership, coaching, and team building

  • Skill in analysis of transportation cost alternatives and scenarios
