Meta Character Artist, BigBoxVR in Helena, Montana

Summary:

You are an experienced and talented Character Artist looking to build the next generation of games for Meta Quest. You have multiple years of experience with Maya, Zbrush and the Unity Editor (or other 3D game engines like Unreal). You love to create realistic and original styles, bringing unique characters to a broad audience of players in a live-service game.

Required Skills:

Character Artist, BigBoxVR Responsibilities:

  1. Create high quality, detailed 3D character models and assets.

  2. Understand how to work with asset limitations to high high quality deliverables on time while managing risks.

  3. Mentor and motivate other character artists.

  4. Ensure art assets are performant and within budgets for draw calls, poly counts, and texture memory without compromising visual quality.

  5. Develop new character ideas that fit within conceptual designs, technical parameters, and production goals, for a live-service online game.

  6. Help define and maintain art production pipelines, tools, and systems to hit high fidelity within the constraints.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years work experience in game development as a character artist using Maya (or 3DSMax), Photoshop, Zbrush or Mudbox.

  2. Experience communicating with a team and providing and receiving feedback.

  3. Expert in realistic characters with a solid understanding of character form.

  4. Knowledge in hi-poly modeling and digital sculpting.

  5. Proven knowledge of low poly modeling techniques.

  6. Experience taking a character to completion from either a detailed or simple concept image.

  7. Experience collaborating with producers, game designers, and programmers.

  8. Hands-on experience with asset optimization challenges/techniques in a shipped product.

  9. Experience problem-solving and prototyping.

  10. Hands-on experience with game engines such as Unity, Unreal, or equivalent experience.

  11. Portfolio of highly detailed 3D art with a focus on realistic characters.

  12. Experience with UV layout and editing as needed for highest visual payoff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience building assets for VR or AR.

  2. Knowledge of hard surface modeling for armor and weapons.

  3. Experience with Perforce and/or Git.

  4. Strong knowledge of Marvelous Designer and Substance Painter.

  5. Experience in animation and rigging.

Public Compensation:

$126,000/year to $175,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
