What Research and Development Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health

Research and Development Engineering is responsible for developing and implementing new products and performing sustaining activities for commercially available products through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering and documentation practices.

Location: Hazelwood, MO

Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 remote)

Job Summary:

The Senior R&D Engineer will be responsible for development, implementation, and sustaining activities for electro-mechanical medical devices in the Vascular Compression business. This role will require strong technical expertise, specifically in the area of electrical and software engineering.

Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute project plans for medical device development.

  • Work closely with other departments to understand customer needs and develop product requirements.

  • Develop and implement product design control processes, including design inputs, outputs, verification, and validation.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, manufacturers, and regulatory agencies.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards.

  • Apply comprehensive knowledge and a thorough understanding of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to perform varied tasks and projects.

  • Work independently to develop innovative technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

  • Identify and resolve project roadblocks by utilizing available resources and information.

  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures.

  • Conduct research and stay up to date on industry trends and advancements in technology.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an Engineering discipline (Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical, Software) preferred.

  • 4+ years of experience in product design and development preferred.

  • Strong understanding of electrical and software engineering principles highly preferred.

  • Experience in hardware and software design, testing, and validation highly preferred.

  • Proficiency in CAD, ECAD and/or SW/FW programming.

  • Familiarity with medical industry regulations and standards highly preferred.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to manage ambiguity and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience reading and preparing technical documentation, such as IP disclosures.

Anticipated salary range: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00
