SR. MANAGER, PRODUCTION QUALITY ASSURANCE (FALCON 9)

This role will lead a team of quality inspectors and quality specialists supporting Falcon and Merlin production. This senior manager is responsible for ensuring the quality of all hardware manufactured in their supported areas and driving improvement in the quality of the Falcon product.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the team of quality inspectors supporting Falcon and Merlin integration and structures. Ensure that all hardware produced is in conformance with the relevant specification or drawing, and that any non-conformance is discovered, documented, and corrected in the area it is made (i.e. minimize quality escapes)

  • Ensure quality inspector operations are as efficient as possible, and that our quality assurance team and processes are capable of supporting the required production rate with no compromise in hardware reliability

  • Manage team of Quality Specialists focused on quality process improvements, quality training procedures, and small to mid-scale projects

  • Work with build reliability, manufacturing, and design teams to implement design and/or process changes to improve first pass yield, reduce quality inspector and technician burden, and improve overall reliability of hardware

  • Administer the AO training program across all supported production areas

  • Organize efforts across production teams to improve workmanship and reduce rework hours

  • Assist and in many cases lead root cause investigations for quality escapes or other misses, including development and implementation of corrective actions

  • Serve as the primary owner for supported production areas’ audit readiness

  • Implement continuous improvement principles to ensure operational excellence among the quality inspector team

  • Establish and track departmental quality metrics. Work with production and engineering management to develop and take actions that improve the quality landscape and help achieve targets on relevant metrics

  • Liaise with test and launch sites as appropriate to drive improvements in quality, and standardization of quality and production processes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or STEM discipline or 4+ years of experience with direct report management in a technical leadership role

  • 2+ years of leadership experience

  • 5+ years of experience in quality assurance, manufacturing/design engineering, systems integration or launch

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with design for manufacture and product development life cycle

  • Experience with quality tools including root cause and corrective action, QMS and process auditing and statistical analysis of quality metrics

  • Experience leading an operational team of hourly employees, either in production or quality

  • Graduate degree in a technical or management field

  • Excellent communication to all levels of the organization

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced/cross-functional environment

  • Establish priorities, work independently and lead continuous improvement initiatives

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications

  • Management experience

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel to the various SpaceX sites. Up to 10% travel

  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Sr. Manager: $160,000.00 - $205,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
