Job Description:

The RF/Wireless Passive Component Design Engineer is an experienced professional with the capability to perform circuit design of passive waveguide, and connectorized RF/microwave components and multi-function integrated passive microwave assemblies up to 40 GHz. Able to synthesize and develop new passive components using CAE analysis tools and has hands-on bench troubleshooting and test skills. Effectively communicates with contacts inside and outside of own department, customers, and suppliers. Responsible for recommending enhancements to systems and processes. Possesses practical project management skills and will work to achieve technical performance while meeting schedule and cost operational targets for specific programs and projects with moderate impact on departmental results.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, develop, test and support production of passive waveguide, and connectorized microwave circuits and multi-function integrated passive microwave assemblies.

  • Perform EM and linear simulations of microwave circuits, multi-layer boards, RF transitions and waveguide cavities.

  • Perform RF/microwave component level system analysis.

  • Develop specifications for microwave components and subassemblies.

  • Generate test and data reports.

  • Design for ease of manufacturing.

  • Estimate and track project schedules and labor for engineering developments.

  • Proposal writing and labor estimating.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electro physics and a minimum of 4 years prior relevant experience or a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years prior related experience.

  • A minimum of 2 years designing and simulating microwave passive circuits. RF/Microwave passive components include couplers, power dividers, attenuators, phase shifters and terminations.

  • Experienced user of microwave test equipment; including network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters and signal generators.

  • Use of linear circuit and EM structure CAE tools for design and analysis.

  • Ability to gain Secret Level Security Clearance.

  • Good written and verbal communications skills.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Design experience with active RF/microwave components. Components include, but are not limited to, low noise amplifiers, oscillators, synthesizers, and PIN diode circuits.

  • Knowledge/application of filter synthesis and design.

  • System analysis experience comprising both cascade and spur analysis.

  • Ability to manage projects and interface effectively with other functional areas.

  • Experience designing products for manufacturability.

  • Proficient use of Keysight ADS, Keysight RFPro, Ansys HFSS simulation tools.

  • Use of CAD tools such as AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD.

  • Design/test experience of circuits operating through 26GHz is favored, with operation up through 40GHz further preferred.

  • Experience with both chip and wire hybrid and PCB surface mount manufacturing methods.

  • Hands-on experience testing and aligning fine pitch circuits under a microscope.

  • Knowledge of high power and space applications.
