Job Summary

Entry level technician position that receives specific instructions and assignments of routine tasks with full supervision. Participates and supports various polymer science and engineering activities for polymer processing setup and cleanup, facilities & inventory organization, extrusion, prepreg, film, matrix reactor, scale-up, autoclave, sample preparation, testing, maintenance and operation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist researchers by performing routine tests/sampling.

  • Support polymer science and engineering activities for processing setup and cleanup of facilities.

  • Perform testing and maintenance, and sample preparation.

  • Assist with scale-up, autoclave, the matrix reactor, prepreg film, and extrusion.

  • Maintain laboratory stock and supplies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree or high school diploma with a minimum one year of prior employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of laboratory and safety procedures.

  • Ability effectively communicate with technical managers and co-workers to address needs of managers, sponsors, students, administrators and the public.

  • Skill to apply mathematical concepts to work related needs.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical information, procedures, testing standards or regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in a chemistry laboratory environment, operations experience with thermoplastic and thermoset processes, composite lamination, injection molding, thermoforming, polymerization reactors, etc. Synthetic, physical and analytical polymer science and engineering skills.
