Job Summary

The Certified Personal Trainer is responsible for the paid for experience of individual or group personal training sessions. The certified personal trainer may also coach their clients through special programs, events, and classes. Not only is he/she given the honor of serving as an advocate for members as they journey through the experiences afforded them by their wellness center membership, they also coach their clients through special programs, events, classes. At least one certification: certified personal trainer, registered kinosotherapist or higher certification that is accredited by the NCCA, ISO 17024 or a similar approved accrediting body.

Essential Functions

  • Consults with members regarding their exercise program through a fitness evaluation which may include flexibility and strength testing. Assists members with completing a health risk assessment and helps them develop a personal plan of achievement.

  • Answers client questions and inquiries regarding fitness and training. Demonstrates the correct exercise form and procedure for new and existing members on all types of equipment.

  • Prepares individual exercise prescriptions based on data collected, and/or most recent evidence based research and instructs members in proper techniques of exercise intervention.

  • Monitors all aspects of the fitness program to assure that the quality and level of resources necessary to fulfill the fitness requirements of each member is maintained.

  • Collaborates with membership team and Spectrum Health medical professionals to reference/refer medical questions and to co-casemanage more complex medical cases.

  • Receives input for members regarding complaints, comments, or suggestions and takes appropriate action to assure member satisfaction.

  • Able to apply and enforce all wellness center rules and regulations as outlined in the rules and bylaws as well as follow all emergency procedures as outlines in the operations manual.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Bachelor's Degree exercise sciences or related field Preferred

  • 6 months of relevant experience Demonstrated internship and/or work experience in a high volume health and fitness facility (which incorporated the use of technology) Required

  • Demonstrated experience/technical expertise in performing health risk appraisals, low level strength and conditioning testing and evaluations Required

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 60 Days required Or

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 60 Days required

  • Certified Personal Trainer through NASM, ACSM, ACE, or NSCA Preferred
