Overview:

Personal Auto Insurance is the most competitive and dynamic market in the Property & Casualty industry. We are seeking a collaborative and action-oriented leader to drive key decisions for The Hartford’s $2 billion-dollar Personal Auto book of business. The Director, Countrywide Auto Product (the Director) is accountable for profit & loss management, analysis, and monitoring of countrywide auto product performance and financial results.

The Director will bring strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, deep product and financial acumen, decisiveness and ability to positively impact results. This is a highly visible role and requires exceptional communication and influencing skills. This role reports directly to the AVP, PL, Auto Line Lead and leads a small team. This role may have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near our Hartford, CT Home Office will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).   Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate across Personal Lines (PL) to evaluate Auto product performance and financial results, using analytical tools and root cause analysis to diagnose performance issues and develop product, underwriting, marketing, and other actions to improve profitability and growth.

  • Responsible for coordinating decision making across a cross functional team including Product, Underwriting, Sales, Service, Claims and Actuarial.

  • Develop standard monitoring exhibits for presentation to senior leadership in Monthly Business Reviews (MBR) and in preparation for quarterly earnings calls.

  • Partner with PL Data and Analytics team to continuously improve our analytical and monitoring capabilities. Establish operational KPI reporting to measure the success of individual initiatives.

  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement profit improvement, expense reduction, or growth initiatives.

  • Provide thought leadership to strategic initiatives and support ad hoc analysis as needed.

  • Lead a staff of two teammates, with strong indirect influence over resources across Personal Lines.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the P&C insurance industry, and 5 years of Product or P&L Management experience and a strong understanding of Personal Lines insurance products and marketplace is required. Both agency and direct distribution experience is preferred.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills with an emphasis on customer focus, collaboration and partnering to obtain results. Ability to work effectively across multiple functional areas.

  • Team player, proactive self-starter with excellent judgement. Proven track record of insightful process improvement and influencing others.

  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving skills. Proficient in MS Excel and other data analysis and visualization software.

  • Leadership skills required; experience leading and developing a high performing team strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$140,240 - $210,360
