About BRD Builders:Since 2000, BRD Builders has been successfully completing projects in the state of Connecticut consisting of municipal, multi-family, offices, retail spaces, restaurants, healthcare facilities, and financial institutions. We have ample bonding capacity and are registered with the State of CT as a Major Contractor, and are DAS certified as both a Construction Manager and General Contractor. Internally, our team highly values communication and utilizes the latest technology in take-off, scheduling, and accounting software. We are centrally located in Hartford (5 minutes off I-84 and I-91), offer a flexible and friendly work environment, competitive salary, and benefits. Most of our projects are within 90 minutes of Hartford. Due to increased growth within our company, we have an immediate opening for an experienced Estimator with a commercial construction background.

About the Role: In this role as a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for managing the entire coordination of the bidding process. Your main responsibilities will include preparation of quantity take-offs, scope assessment, and obtaining quotes from subcontractors and suppliers. You will monitor and track multiple projects through the pre-construction phase, work closely with the Project Managers, and report directly to the Owner.

Responsibilities:

  • Seek out projects to provide competitive bids that result in profitable contracts.
  • Track and manage multiple bids.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings.
  • Review documentation to gain a complete understanding of the project requirements.
  • Coordinate and obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Maintain and build strong relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Assist the project team with maintaining the budget, buyout, and contractual requirements.
  • Follow awarded contracts to procure materials and subcontractors, assist Project Managers with gathering prices for change orders when needed.
  • Regularly perform various internal analyses and studies to find better solutions and maximize bid accuracy.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to multi-task and work under tight time-constraints.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret drawings, correspondence, and RFI's.
  • Strong knowledge of construction, the sequence of operations, and estimating.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and a detail-oriented team player with a high level of integrity.
  • Strong skills in process improvement and streamlining tasks to improve efficiency.
  • Complete understanding of estimating costs, bidding and procurement processes, preconstruction services, constructability pricing, value engineering, logistics, bonds licenses, insurance, and permits.

Qualifications:

  • Construction estimating experience is required.
  • A thorough understanding of plans, specifications, proposals, and contractual documentation.
  • Must be comfortable and capable of using modern computer software and technology.
