The Salvation Army Accounts Payable Clerk in Hartford, Connecticut

Overview

Location: Divisional Headquarters, Finance Department (Hartford, CT)

Status: Non-exempt, Full-time

Hours Per Week: 37.5

Schedule: Mon-Fri; 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Scope & Purpose of Position: Process expenses into the accounting package while adhering to The Salvation Army’s accounting policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Apply accounting principles and practices following standardized, well-established procedures, regulations, and guidelines.

  • Institute safeguards to ensure the integrity and maintenance of the accounting system.

  • Assist with the preparation of financial-related materials for audits.

  • Assist in month-end closing procedures.

  • Input financial-related data into computer system and maintain financial reports and records.

  • Maintain an unpaid invoice file.

  • Maintain and oversee maintenance of financial documents.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

  • Record and post expenses into the computer system.

  • Provide coverage for the Accounts Receivable Clerk.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in accounting or realted or three years of experience preferred.

  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data.

  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, accounting software, and databases, particularly in Microsoft Excel.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.

  • Should be well organized, show strong initiative, and effective follow through.
