SUMMARY

Operates heavy, off-road type equipment (examples: drills, loaders, dozers, trucks, service equipment, excavator), typically found in quarry applications and/or provides manual labor at ground level, involving various duties around a quarry production facility including welding. Job is outdoors, weather related, involving manual skills, some math and reasoning and continuous safety applications around heavy equipment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works from general supervision from foreman on routine duties with standard policies and procedures. Refers problems and questions to foreman.

PRIMARY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knowledge of MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) rules, training practices, first aid and any other rules of safety as applicable to the specific task.

  • Services assigned machine before starting operation daily - checks oil levels, hydraulic, coolant and other fluids. Visual check of tires and overall machine condition. Checks entire machine for safe operation ability.

  • Fuels assigned machine with diesel fuel from storage tanks.

  • Operate assigned machine in safe fashion as it applies to one's self and fellow crew members. Operate machine in as efficient, productive fashion possible with highest production rate applicable.

  • Perform plant maintenance with minor repairs and assist mechanic.

  • Clean around plant - requires shoveling.

  • Keeps work area clean, orderly and inform supervisor of any potential problem developments.

  • Assists mechanic with any breakdowns, hose repairs, welding or scheduled maintenance on machine. May include extended downtime and lifting duties.

  • Utility and ground crew shall perform their assigned job and report any discrepancies to their supervisor.

  • Must submit to random drug testing, as selected, and comply with Company Drug and Alcohol Policy.

  • Dependable and reliable attendance.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Skill in machine operation, maintenance and safety around other individuals and machines. Typically, a very active, mobile individual since machinery has rough operation, driving over pit floors, dumping large loads and working around large rocks and possibly muddy conditions. Must be capable of lifting 75 pounds, climbing 8-10 foot ladders to reach operator's cab and sitting for long periods of time utilizing both left and right hand operators' controls and steering wheel simultaneously. Also, requires simultaneous coordination of possibly three (3) foot control pedals.

Education

High school graduation or equivalent preferred.

Experience

Six months minimum on smaller loader, dozer or off-road type machinery preferred.
