Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Emergency Management Trainee in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 4475868 THE POSITION Want to help ensure the safety and security of people and property in the Commonwealth? How about working with multiple state agencies, regional task forces, counties, and localities? PEMA is seeking a detail-oriented individual to perform emergency management duties that are essential to assist the Commonwealth in preparing for and responding to emergencies and disasters. Focus will be on operational planning for incidents impacting Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION OF WORK An employee in this entry-level position participates in formal training sessions, workshops, and on-the-job assignments to develop proficiency in planning, organizing, equipping, and evaluating emergency service responses, plans, and operations. Work involves assisting staff in developing, evaluating, and promoting emergency operations plans; coordinating prevention, emergency and disaster response, and recovery activities; and developing and conducting training programs, mitigation activities, and grant programs related to emergency management. As training progresses, the trainee is involved in projects of greater difficulty and complexity. Work is performed under the guidance and direction of a supervisor who assigns, and reviews work and ensures attainment of the goals and objectives of the training plan.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Free Secure On-Site Parking. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Work hours are dependent on activations or other needs of the operation. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after the successful completion of a comprehensive on-site training period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will receive the minimum starting salary listed on this posting.  The starting salary is non-negotiable. A bachelor's degree in emergency management, homeland security, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

This position requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension. This position requires certification in the following courses from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Management Institute, within 6 months of hire: IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System IS-800.D: National Response Framework, An Introduction IS-2200: Basic Emergency Operations Center Functions Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement.
