The Department of Transportation is currently seeking a skilled diesel mechanic to take charge of performing essential preventive maintenance and repairs on the equipment assigned to our Central Office located in Harrisburg. By utilizing your expertise, you will play a crucial role in keeping our vehicles in top-notch condition, ensuring their reliability and safety as they navigate the roads. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position will be responsible for performing routine preventive maintenance on vehicles assigned to Central Office. This includes state inspections, emissions inspections, and oil changes. Routine testing will be performed including tune-ups; electric circuit testing; and diagnosing battery, starter, alternator and wiring problems. Routine repair work includes engine remanufacturing, machining of various engine components, engine assembly and testing of engine performance. Snow removal operations for the Equipment Division's parking lot and various locations will also be assigned.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position is eligible for an Alternate Work Schedule (AWS). Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License. Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Conditions of Employment: All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment. All positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
