UPMC Cardiology Technician in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Perform specialized clinical functions at UPMC Harrisburg - Cardiac Processing Unit. This position will work hours three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. No weekends, holidays or call.

Responsibilities:

  • Suggests and supports changes within the department. Assumes responsibilities for the assignment and views problems as challenges. Demonstrates awareness of behavior and contributes to the efficient functioning of the department. Supports department-based projects and quality initiatives.

  • Constructively receives feedback and direction. Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director. Takes action to improve knowledge, skills and performance. Requests assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed. Participants in self-review as requested by the unit director. Participates in project and committee work.

  • Completes department clerical functions as needed, such as answering the phone and checking in patients in EPIC.

  • Performs the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities such as blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I & O, specimen collections, foley care, and activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning), telemetry monitor application/reapplication

  • Responsible for stocking of patient care rooms and stocking cart.

  • Provides advanced care such as phlebotomy, 12 lead ekg, foley catheter insertion and removal, bladder scan, ACT point of care testing, IV catheter insertion and removal, arterial and venous sheath removal with hemostasis.

  • Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties assigned.

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent required

  • 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Cardiovascular Technician or a Paramedic is required.

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or LPN is preferred.

  • Knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology of the heart.

  • Knowledge of Cardiac Patients and procedures

  • Ability to think and act independently. Computer skills are highly preferred.

  • Current BLS Certification

  • Basic arrythmia course and pass written exam with 80% score or higher. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Act 34
