Switchboard operator

  • POSITION SUMMARY

  • Relays incoming and outgoing calls, monitors operations of telephone and paging systems, and ensures that telephone equipment is in good working order and that problems are reported. Monitors emergency alarms. Communicates medical and other information to authorized recipients; operates the paging system; sounds alarms and announces medical codes; disasters, and other emergencies in accordance with institutional policies. Works cooperatively on PI initiatives to improve Communications department for the organization.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma is required. Post High School education is desired. At least one year work experience in switchboard communications (preferably in an acute care hospital) is required. Familiarity with ambulatory and standard medical terminology is preferred. Prior Switchboard experience is a plus. Ability to utilize a PC a must. Knowledge of Microsoft applications a plus.
