Hagerstown Community College Youth Programs Team Lead in Hagerstown, Maryland

SUMMARY STATEMENT The Youth Program Team Lead will act as the camp's director. This position will provide daily oversight of the staff, student workers, and instructors for College for Kids and Discovery Academy, as well as ensure compliance with all state regulations.

 

The College for Kids program runs from June 24 to August 9, 2024.

 

Please note, this is a temporary position.  This position is part-time for up to 29 hours per week.  Will need to work flexible hours during the actual weeks of the College for Kids program.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A.    The Youth Programs Team Lead reports directly to the Personal Enrichment and Youth Programs Manager.

 

B.    The position provides supervision to Youth Program Assistant, instructors, and student workers. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

•    Collaborate with Program Manager to develop new course ideas

•    Seek ways to innovate and improve youth programming and operational procedures

•    Work in partnership with Program Manager to recruit and evaluate instructors

•    Review and update instructor scopes of work and contracts, and ensure all new hire paperwork and background checks are completed

•    Develop and present instructor orientations prior to the first week of camp

•    Monitor and evaluate instructor performance and address unsatisfactory performance

•    Act as the daily point of contact for instructors during camp

•    Work with instructors to ensure each class has a comprehensive syllabus and lesson plan

•    Act as member of the hiring committee for and supervise the Youth Program Assistant

•    Recruit and supervise student workers, working with Youth Program Assistant to assign tasks

•    Maintain compliance with all state regulations, including coordinating weekly fire drills and submitting an annual report

•    Review and communicate all camp and classroom policies to instructors

•    Review weekly health, medication, and allergy reports to be aware of potential incidents

•    Manage student health and behavioral issues in cooperation with the Camp Nurse and the college's Behavioral Intervention Team

•    Document behavioral issues in CampDoc and email a report to parents

 

•    Engage with parents and resolve any issues that may arise during the summer enrichment program

•    Work with Food Service manager to communicate youth programs lunch needs and schedule

•    Assign and reserve rooms for classroom instruction and recess

•    Monitor classes during the day and assist in the classroom as necessary

 

 

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor degree and 2 years' experience working in educational environment.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITITIES

Proven success as flexible, positive team player with the ability to work in a fast paced environment. Ability to establish and maintain excellent professional and effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and instructors. Excellent customer service skill and ability to assist instructors and supervisors achieve success.
