Facilitates communication between sending and receiving facilities, including the use of telephone, computer software, and other communication and documentation tools. Documents a record of the encounter.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephones in accordance with established policies and procedures

  • Utilizes professional tone and demeanor in all communication

  • Coordinates communication between sending and receiving facilities, and within the receiving facility

  • Accurately records details of all communication related to each transfer request in the electronic health record in an efficient and timely manner

  • Works in a collaborative manner with other members of the health care team

  • Demonstrates the ability to handle a high degree of pressure, heavy workloads, multiple requests, and numerous interruptions in a positive manner, establishing priorities for effective work completion. Able to diffuse challenging situations and respond appropriately

  • Demonstrates expertise in working with multiple computer applications as well as all functions of the telephone system

  • Escalates barriers and concerns using applicable policies and procedures as well as chain of command

  • Follows patient identification policies and procedures to ensure accurate patient identification

  • Utilizes downtime procedures for effective communication and documentation when necessary

  • Collaborates with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to arrange appropriate and timely transportation based on established protocols

  • Obtains insurance information and communicates with insurance providers and/or case management and social services as needed

  • Initiates registration activities and completes registration as requested

  • Prepares handoff and other reports as directed

  • Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Patient age specification: Neonate, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age, adolescent, adult, geriatrics. 18. Must be able to sit and work at a computer with multiple monitors while speaking on a telephone for extended periods of time

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Emergency medical services experience

  • Computer literacy

  • Medical terminology

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Flexible and adaptable to change

  • Ability to multitask

  • Emergency Medical Technician

  • Paramedic

  • AHA Basic Life Support
