Excet, Inc. is seeking to hire a Sr. Peptide Chemist with advanced experiences in peptide synthesis, function, and structure. The candidate should have a well-demonstrated experience record in the production and handling of proteins, peptides, and biologically produced drug/small molecules. Experience with expressing and purifying functional and complicated proteins from a variety of organisms is also highly desirable.
The candidate will be supporting efforts with heavy emphasis on peptide synthesis and cutting edge instrumentation. Therefore, applicants with a willingness and desire to establish their own workflows and provide meaningful creative and technical leadership are highly desired.
Duties:
Develop workflows to design, synthesize and purify a variety of small to medium length polypeptides using solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) techniques and equipment
Purify and characterize biologically derived proteins, peptides, and other drug/small molecules
Design and perform biochemical assays to study the interactions of synthetic and biologically derived proteins, peptides, and other drug/small molecules on a variety of biological targets
Keep detailed records of laboratory operations and compile data in regular technical reports.
Required Education:
Must have a Master’s degree with 5 years of experience or a Ph.D. with a background in Peptide Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology and molecular biology techniques.
Required Experience:
Demonstrated hands-on experience in peptide chemistry and peptide synthesis
Understanding of protein and peptide chemistry, structure, and conformation, as it relates to stability and function
Hands-on experience with intact protein/peptide mass spectrometry and purification, specifically HPLC
Must have hands-on experience with folding peptides, orthogonal protection/deprotection strategies
Must be able to design, plan, and execute experiments in order to understand the behavior of proteins, peptides, and protein-binding small molecules
Demonstrated technical / scientific leadership skills and a passion for problem solving
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Able to work productively in an interdisciplinary team environment.
Desired Experience:
Fundamental skills in standard biochemical laboratory assays such as, western blotting, immunoprecipitations, ELISA, and Bio-layer interferometry (BLI)/ surface plasmon resonance (SPR).
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
