SUMMARY Manage and support all tooling and process improvement activities in support of the manufacturing operations. Responsible for the design, maintenance and modifications of the tooling, processes, as well as engineering support to the production team as it relates to that area. Position will support assigned annual Capital Expense Projects (CAPEX). Participates in the new product design projects and testing phase of prototypes. Tooling includes but is not limited to embossing roles, extrusion sizing equipment, extrusion sheet dies, punching equipment, and cropping equipment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May include, but are not limited to, the following: Directs and coordinates the repair, maintenance and modification of the manufacturing tooling. Recommend and implement improvements in design to support improved manufacturing productivity and/or product design and functionality. Consult with other departments relative to modification of tooling and processes in order to improve production & quality of products. Interface with manufacturing and maintenance personnel to identify opportunities for improvement and support the operations. Lead tooling technicians to support production and complete modifications and preventive maintenance to the equipment. Teach and mentor tooling technicians on equipment functions and troubleshooting techniques. Interface with tool repair suppliers to obtain quotes and monitor maintenance activities for current tools. Provide proper scoping and definition of new projects to vendors in order to ensure projects are properly completed. Provide project management to lead continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. Provide CAD support for current CAPEX projects for three facilities; Columbus, Woodbridge & Concord. Provides CAD support to maintenance and operations regarding supplemental projects. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Proficiency with Windows based software (specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint,) and SolidWorks required. Experience with statistical software preferred Ability to work independently to resolve issues or problems on a day-to-day basis Strong communication skills (verbal and written) Project management experience preferred Continuous improvement experience preferred Ability to travel, Canada included Knowledge of the extrusion process preferred Ability to obtain license to operate a forklift PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
