Jefferson Parish - Personnel Department Maintenance Technician in Gretna, Louisiana

Purpose of Announcement

: Job is announced to supplement the exsting eligible list to fill one (1) current Westbank and one (1) current Eastbank vacancies both in the Department of parks and Recreation. This employment list may also be used for FUTURE East and West Jefferson vacancies in various Departments.

Kind of Work

: Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform routine maintenance and repairs on buildings and equipment. Position is responsible for maintaining equipment, buildings, ordering supplies and maintaining records of materials. Employee will perform maintenance and repair work in and around assigned buildings such as plumbing, masonry, carpentry, painting, minor electrical and/or heating and ground maintenance using standard hand and electric tools. Must perform work in a safe, efficient, and productive manner according to all safety and work rules. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

NOTE - Some vacancies may require driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a Class D license, thus possession of a valid Class D driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference for those vacancies.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

: Possession of at least two (2) years of verifiable, paid work experience utilizing at least two of the following trades -- painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical or heating/air-conditioning.

Completion of trade school in a curriculum relevant to the work to be performed may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
