Charter Communications Inc in Greenwood Village, CO seeks Principal Engineer I to Design, implement, monitor, enhance and troubleshoot DOCSIS and network systems. Plan, forecast, implement, and identify resource requirements for network systems of varying (moderate to high) complexity. Test and review system architecture and designs. Provide Engineering technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards, and documentation are met. Lead and perform network architecture and design using IEEE, ANSI, Physical Media (Multimode Fiber, single mode Fiber, and UTP), and ethernet protocols utilizing Layer 1 & 2 of the OSI Network Model and transport TCP/UDP technologies and protocols. Use network protocols, including OSPF, BGP, and ISIS role uses to ensure network security and high network availability. Configure network topology to improve network performance. Review work plans and designs and advise on improvements. Develop and implement network enhancements by configuring bridging, switching, and routing network processes to ensure maximum equipment uptime. Perform maintenance for repairs and upgrades. Evaluate new network products. Lead in the development and documentation of technical standards. Implement approved methods of procedure (MOPs) in adherence to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations. Communicate with groups with status updates during break-fix events. Write root cause analysis on complex break-fix events. Write MOPs and MOP templates for successful and consistent implementation of network changes. Mentor and guide the work of technical staff. Assist in training and development of junior engineers. Function in an on-call rotation (1 week out of every 26) and work with other engineers to ensure after-hours escalations are supported. *This position does not supervise

Requires: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering, or related field. 5 years of experience: performing network architecture and design using IEEE, ANSI, Physical Media (Multimode Fiber, Single mode Fiber, and UTP), ethernet technologies and protocols utilizing Layer 1 & 2 of the OSI Network Model, and transport technologies and protocols including TCP/UDP, OSPF/BGP/ISIS; configuring network topology to improve network performance; and configuring bridging, switching, and routing network processes

Salary depends on geography, experience, and education; negotiations begin at $159, 598/year.
