WESTMORELAND COMMUNITY ACTION Housing Support Specialist in Greensburg, Pennsylvania

We are currently seeking a full-time Housing Support Specialist in Greensburg. As the Housing Support Specialist, you will oversee the supportive case management services of our mental health programs. Using your experience in service work, you will:

  • Meet with tenants in groups and one-on-one to develop initial goals and review progress toward those goals,
  • Connect program participants to medical, mental health, and other human service providers,
  • Independently manage crisis situations,
  • Inspect housing sites for safety hazards and needed repairs,
  • Assists tenants with moving into our housing sites and assuring they have adequate food and clothing,
  • Monitor tenant behavior regarding sudden changes that may jeopardize their health or housing status and respond appropriately to any success or issues,
  • Serve as emergency on-call person.

As a non-profit, we, at Westmoreland Community Action (WCA) work to connect individuals and families to opportunities and resources throughout the community to improve their quality of life and help to reduce poverty in the community. This is accomplished through housing, counseling, support, education, intervention, collaborations, partnerships, information, referrals, and networking.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with major course work in either sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, theology (with emphasis on pastoral counseling), nursing, counseling, education or a related field, OR
  • High School diploma or equivalency and 12 semester hours in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology or other social service and two years of experience in public or private human services, of which one year must be mental health direct care experience, OR
  • Six years of experience providing mental health crisis intervention services.
  • Basic working knowledge Microsoft Word and willingness to learn Microsoft Excel.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and $15,000/$30,000 bodily liability auto insurance.
  • Must be able to obtain child abuse, state police, fingerprint-based criminal background check, and sex offender registry clearances.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule within a 40-hour work week.
