Description:

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University seeks an experienced Windows Server Administrator to join the core server and storage management team.

The successful candidate will have strong experience with Windows server management, a solid foundation in server security and grasp of security standards such as ISO 27002 or NIST SP800-171, and experience with Active Directory, MECM , InTune, GPOs, and Defender.

The administrator will join a growing team in support of university operations and will participate in cloud migrations and on-premise upgrades.

Remote work options are available, but the successful candidate must be able to work on campus as required.

The Server Administrator provides the technical expertise to manage and secure the university’s servers, storage, and backup systems, and related enterprise environments and management tools.

The administrator is a member of the server management team and designs servers, installs and hardens operating systems and applications, manages security and updates, and ensures that servers operate in an efficient and secure manner.

This position participates in vulnerability management and incident response and provides high performance and secure servers for the entire university.

The administrator reports to the Director of Network and System Administration and is a key member of the department and the Information Technology Services ( ITS ) operations and security teams.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

Information Technology Services ( ITS ) strengthens and supports the university’s mission of teaching, research, and scholarly application of knowledge by providing the information technology infrastructure, software, hardware, and support to achieve the university’s strategic goals.

ITS is comprised of nine departments which work with the university community to provide the information technology support and services required to realize operational excellence, integrate advanced technology, and create efficient and effective technology solutions.

Requirements:

  1. Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with two (2) years’ experience in server management and security in an enterprise setting, including experience with Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, GPOs, MECM , Intune, Defender or similar applications or

  2. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with three (3) years’ experience in server management and security in an enterprise setting, including experience with Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, GPOs, MECM , Intune, Defender or similar applications.

  3. Additional experience equivalent to the degree requirements is acceptable.

  4. Significant technical knowledge of enterprise management and security of physical and virtual servers in on-premises and cloud environments.

  5. Knowledge of common security standards such as ISO 27002, NIST SP 800-171, or PCI DSS .

  6. Ability to create and follow complex technical policies, procedures and guidelines.

  7. Ability to apply in-depth technical knowledge and troubleshooting techniques to resolve issues.

  8. Demonstrated strong customer service orientation, and experience in partnering with other units and fostering a team spirit within the department.

  9. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

  10. Ability to work independently when performing tasks with minimal supervision, while maintaining appropriate levels of communication.

Preferred:

  1. Five (5) years of experience in server management and technology support roles using the tools listed under required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  2. An advanced degree related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.

  3. Experience managing and securing Linux servers.

  4. Experience with CrowdStrike EDR , Delinea Privilege Manager, and Veeam backup systems.

  5. Experience with vulnerability management, incident response, basic server forensics, and evidence handling.
