North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State Unive Assistant Dean for Student Success and Engagement in Greensboro, North Carolina

Description:

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Science and Technology, the Director of Student Success and Engagement will lead and manage the College’s Office of Student Success. Develops the college student success plan and engage in collaborative examination of student success challenges, develop ideas, initiatives and formulate interventions that enhance students’ academic success within the college. Oversees the College’s advising initiatives and assessment of advising. Reviews assessment data and uses data analytics to identify issues, solutions, and opportunities in student success. Ensures students smooth transition to college, course registration, course transfer, progress toward graduation, and graduate in a timely manner. Engages with industry partners and the offices of Career Services, Development, Alumni Relations and Advancement Services to seek student scholarship, internship and career opportunities. Oversees career advising of students within the college. Works collaboratively with the University’s Center for Academic Excellence to enhance student success. Ensures that student success initiatives are implemented by all 7 departments of the college.

The Director of Student Success and Engagement will teach 1 to 2 classes per semester within a department of the College of Science and Technology.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral Research University dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The College of Science and Technology enrolls 1990 students. It is a national leader that serves and engages the citizens of the state of North Carolina, the nation, and the world through preeminence in science and technology education, research, discovery, and innovation. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and the Ph.D. Program of Applied Science Technology. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research. The Office of Student Success ( OSS ) is an integral part of the College of Science and Technology (CoST). OSS is committed to the success of all CoST students in their academics and career preparation. OSS helps students transition smoothly to college, remain in good standing, progress toward graduation, and graduate in a timely manner. OSS helps students through different services. These include academic coaching, academic advising, mentoring, tutoring support services, and student success workshops.

OSS liaises with the different departments within the College of Science and Technology through the Student Success committee. The latter consists of one faculty representative from each of the 7 departments and is chaired by the Director of Student Success and Engagement.

Requirements:

MS required in a field covered by CoST

Preferred:

Three years of progressively responsible experience in collegiate academic and career advising.

Strong team building skills to provide collaborative leadership within the team, throughout the College, and with other key stakeholders on campus. Ability to demonstrate successful outcomes through measures such as academic progress, persistence, retention, and completion
