Position Description:
The Payroll Accounting Manager oversees all aspects of employee payroll and payroll functions, ensuring payroll is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.
Essential Duties:
Oversee the payroll process for the entire payroll team.
Implement, maintain, and review payroll processes to ensure timely, accurate and compliant processing of payroll transactions.
Evaluate payroll systems and recommend updates and changes as needed to ensure security and compliance.
Prepare reports summarizing payroll expenses for leadership team as requested.
Manage and resolve complex payroll issues as needed.
Responsible for departmental employee training, motivation, supervision, and evaluation. Recommend salary increases and take disciplinary action as necessary and authorized. Approve staff timecards.
Develop and maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting policies, financial systems & processes, internal controls, and chart of accounts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
7+years of relevant accounting experience.
Experience leading and managing a team.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong organizational skills.
Computer software knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of governmental accounting, auditing, and budgeting.
In depth knowledge of modern and complex payroll practices including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
Experienced with financial record keeping and reporting.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Vista Viewpoint software experience.
