Bard College at Simon's Rock IT Database Applications Specialist in Great Barrington, Massachusetts

The Database Applications Specialist provides leadership in analyzing user needs and ensures the reliability and effective use of administrative and enterprise-wide databases and software (including auxiliary systems and web applications). Develops technical specifications, writes custom database and web applications as appropriate, and implements and supports third party products and functionality. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Provide leadership in analyzing user needs and ensure the reliability and effective, accurate use of administrative and enterprise-wide databases and software (including auxiliary systems and web applications). Develop technical specifications, write custom database and web applications as appropriate; implement and support third party products and functionality. Develop, document, and fully support Banner processes and ancillary applications. Create custom reports using a variety of reporting tools. Liaise with MIS at Bard and/or external consultants/support professionals as needed to ensure smooth operations on all levels of Banner and Banner-related applications. Interact with staff and faculty throughout the College as well as professionals outside the College who are involved with a particular project or application. Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor Maintain compliance with all BCSR policies and procedures Design, develop, and maintain ETL processes to extract data from various sources (such as databases, APIs, flat files) Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all projects. After hours on call one week out of every six and occasionally additionally as needed. Qualifications: Possess a Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science or related technical area (or equivalent experience) and 3-5 years of related experience (database, programming, systems analysis) including project management. Knowledge and experience in the use of administrative and enterprise systems such as Banner (especially student systems such as Admissions and Student Records), LDAP and email systems are necessary. Proficiency in SQL (Oracle SQL and/or PostgreSQL preferred) is required with knowledge of PHP, Perl, and Unix/Linux environments is desired. Must possess willingness and aptitude for learning new programming languages/environments and possess experience using web-based reporting tools. Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills, including strong written and verbal skills, in addition to the ability to create and foster collaborative, cooperative, and productive work relationships, are expected. Physical Requirements Able to engage in sedentary work and repetitive movement for long stretches of time. Ability to type, do data entry as well as other related computer skills are necessary. Resilience Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Ability to relate to others on a variety of levels. Ability to perform complex and varied tasks, sometimes concurrently.
