Description:

Weyerhaeuser's Oriented Strand Board mill in Grayling, MI is seeking a part-time 30 hour per week Process Technician to join our world-class high-performance team. The Process Technician will be accountable for providing technical leadership and support to an Operating Team.

Key Functions:

  • Role model a strong commitment to working safely and contributing to a strong safety culture
  • Ensure specifications for high value products are met and manage overall OSB quality
  • Understand life cycle of the OSB manufacturing process from incoming raw materials through the end point customer
  • the attributes necessary for a quality product and its impact on the market: including physical properties and their effect, product appearance and product performance specifications.
  • Understand physical properties and their effect, product appearance and product performance specifications.
  • Monitor optimization systems and verify conformance to Grayling Quality Management System.
  • Monitor performance of grading/optimization equipment and make adjustments as needed (i.e. clean, calibrate/align, and troubleshoot issues).
  • Interact and become certified with a Third-Party Auditor
  • Apply systematic troubleshooting methods.
  • Help individual team members understand the impact of their actions on quality and the total process
  • Train team members in their functions and quality responsibilities.
  • Control additive inventories and costs.
  • Collect and interpret quality data and communicate through team meetings, reports, charts, discussions and /or presentations.
  • Maintain lab equipment, mobile equipment certification, and housekeeping standards.
  • Independently analyze data and recommend alternate courses of action.

Qualifications:

  • BS in wood science, wood technology, engineering (or related fields) or a minimum of four years of OSB manufacturing experience.
  • Able to work safely and follow all company policies and procedures
  • Willing and able to work independently with little supervision and make decisions based on data and statistical information
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office proficiency)
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work closely with mill personnel at all levels
  • Ability to train and make presentations to all types of audiences
  • Excellent safety awareness and performance
  • Possess drive, initiative and inquisitiveness.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical functions
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage through occasionally high stress situations
  • Quality control experience and general knowledge of optimization/data systems preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities
  • Ability and desire to work in a progressive team atmosphere fostering a strong belief in teamwork
  • Maintain company ethics; understand and follow anti-trust regulations, while maintaining mill policies, standards and company ethics.

  • Must be flexible with work schedule and able to work any shift (rotating shifts), weekends, overtime, holidays as needed
  • Able to perform all essentials functions in an industrial environment, using hand and power tools which may include lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing steps, working from heights, standing or walking for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours or more, working in extreme temperatures, dust, and noise while wearing all safety equipment
