GRP Engineering, a Verdantas company, is seeking a dynamic Power Utility Staff I Engineer to join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a Power Utility Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and implementation of projects for transmission, distribution, and industrial applications. This position offers a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership, and project management.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineering of electric utility projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to project budgets, schedules, and quality standards

  • Be able to support system studies and program and troubleshoot SCADA systems, including communication connections

  • Knowledge of distribution line design & construction

  • Develop and oversee the creation of engineering deliverables for substation projects, including physical layouts, electrical one-lines, equipment selection, specifications, and all associated electrical calculations and studies (short circuit, load flow, arc flash, grounding, etc.)

  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams (project managers, other engineers, and designers) and external stakeholders (clients, utilities) to ensure project success

  • Stay current with the latest industry standards, codes, and technologies related to substation design and engineering

  • Identify and implement opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement within the substation engineering practice

  • Be adaptable and willing to work outside of standard business hours on occasion

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

  • 0-5 years of experience in substation engineering design

  • Looking for a candidate interested in pursuit of PE licensure

  • Proficiency in industry software such as AutoCAD and AcSELerator

  • Knowledge of substation equipment, protection, and control systems

  • Knowledge construction practices, and relevant industry standards (IEEE, National Electrical Safety Code, etc.)

  • Experience with power system analysis software (ETAP, CYME, WindMil etc.) is a plus

  • Capable of working in an outdoor work environment and office environment

  • Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 80 lbs. occasionally with or without accommodation, sometimes over substantial distances
