Nexstar Media Group News Editor/ Photographer in Grand Rapids, Michigan

WOOD-TV in beautiful Grand Rapids, MI has an opportunity for someone who understands the importance of great editing, and also knows how to shoot memorable video. Our newscasts rely on editors to bring stories to life. The News Editor/Photographer operates editing equipment to produce images or scenes for newscasts and other programming. This staff member takes in live feeds from WOOD-TV news crews, and shares our content with 200+ stations around the Nexstar Nation. We also use this editor/photographer to shoot news stories and cover breaking news. Effective use of a camera is a must.

Job Description:

  • Organizes and strings together raw footage into a continuous whole according to scripts or instructions for newscasts and other programming.

  • Reviews assembled footage on screens or monitors to determine whether corrections are necessary.

  • Trims filmed segments to specified lengths and reassembles segments into sequences that present stories with maximum effect.

  • Determines the specific audio and visual effects necessary to complete spots.

  • Sets up and operates computer editing systems, electronic titling systems, video switching equipment, and digital video effects units to produce a final product.

  • Selects and combines the most effective shots of each scene to form a logical and smoothly running story.

  • Shoots news stories.

  • Captures video at breaking news scenes.

  • Runs cameras on live shots.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements & Skills:

  • High school diploma.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Minimum one year experience operating video editing equipment.

  • Minimum one year experience running a news camera.

  • Proficiency with computers, and other office equipment.

  • Proficiency with video editing equipment.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Training/Equipment: Computer with editing and motion graphic software and videography skills.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: High stress environment with deadline pressures. Must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment or items such as cameras, tripods, lights, etc, up to 25 pounds. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
