In this role, a typical day will look like:

  • Designs, develops, and sustains production work cells. Evaluates mechanical, optical and electrical systems, device components, test software and applications; applies knowledge of production and materials. Includes electromechanical and optical subsystems.

  • Support Value Analysis/Value Engineering team in their efforts to improve the total cost of components, systems and processes at X-Rite. Execute upon VAVE ideas through materials cost reduction, product re-engineering, manufacturing and test process easements, combinations thereof, or other

  • Leveraging upon external supplier design capabilities to improve quality, reliability and cost of the products we manufacture

  • Support the full validation and qualification of Alpha, Beta and Pilot components/systems/processes as we launch new products

  • Participate in design reviews and FMEA exercises to identify & drive improvements in product quality

  • Supports the identification, qualification and validation of electrical components and subsystems as required while supporting our Continuity of Supply process

  • Participate in cross-functional daily management meetings to ensure organizational alignment

  • Proactively monitor production first-pass yield data for non-compliant products and perform statistical analyses to differentiate between single occurrence vs significant trends.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Willingness to travel up to 14 days per year (nights away from home)

  • B.S. Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering), preferably in analytical instrumentation, consumer electronics, automotive electro-mechanical and electronic components/systems or equivalent industry.

  • Manufacturing Engineer with 0–3 years experience or exposure to and understanding of the following:

  • Product/System Design

  • CAD/CAM Software and Schematics understanding and GD&T fundamentals

  • Experience identifying and implementing improvements to processes, tools and tooling.

  • Experience with Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing a plus.

  • DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM, Quality Systems

  • Automated motion controls or power electronics

  • Customer-focused attitude with a strong desire to work both independently but also as part of cross-functional teams

  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at different levels of the organization ranging from Manufacturing Associates to the Product Manager

  • Knowledge of bills of material, routings, manufacturing procedures, tooling/fixture design, etc. is preferred

  • Personal commitment and drive to improve manufacturing operations
