Actalent Distribution Engineer (Entry-level) in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Title: Distribution Engineer

Job Description

Individual will be responsible for independently developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers. The individual will review work provided by the client (Consumers Energy) and assess the requirements of the scopes.

Field work will be in one of the twelve locations listed below in the work environment.

  • Field work will be a combination of photos and measurements taken of the specific site they have been assigned. This information will then be used to create designs for the final package.

  • Design will then be completed using Open Utilities used by Consumers Energy.

  • Responsible for building a Bill of Materials (BOM) to be entered in SAP/Material Tracking Software.

  • Permitting needed for utility lines to crossroads, easements, private property, or orders to have certain trees removed where the new lines will run.

  • Photos, measurements, design, BOM, and permits are completed, the candidate will turn in the electrical construction package for approval.

  • Revisions may be needed before being submitted to the client Consumers Energy, which are then used by the construction crews to make the electrical connection at the site.

  • Determine wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.

  • Knowledge of or experience working with NESC (National Electric Safety Codes), will be used when making designs or selecting materials.

  • Individual will work with a designated final Quality Control approver on any necessary changes or revisions before the final electrical distribution design package is turned into the end client.

  • Frequent communication via e-mail, phone, and teams with the client.

Hard Skills

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or an entry-level design degree with an associates in design

  • Experience with design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, Microstation, etc.)

  • Experience with Open Utilities (a plus)

  • Experience with SAP/Material Tracking Software (a plus)

  • Knowledge of NESC codes

  • Experience with Poleforman or PLA/Pole Loading Analysis (aplus)

Soft Skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently

  • Problem-solving skills

Job Type

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 9 Month(s).

Work Environment/Site

Work will be a combination of locations depending on where the candidate lives. The following locations are areas that the client is looking to have employees support, with a preference for candidates within a 60-mile radius: South Hamilton, Coldwater, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek/Lansing, Jackson/Adrian/South Monroe, East West Branch, Clare, Saginaw/Bay City/Alma, Flint, West Traverse City/Benzie/Boyne, Grand Rapids, Greenville/North Kent, Muskegon/Fremont, Cadillac/Big Rapids/Ludington. If a candidate lives near a Wade Trim office, they will be asked to go into the office 2-3 days a week. Wade Trim offices in Michigan are located in Gaylord, Bay City, Flint, and Grand Rapids.
