TEKsystems Cable Technician in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Description:

  • Working on a team of Technicians that deal with all low voltage infrastructure cabling including; cat 5, cat 6, copper, coax, fiber, T1's, Ds3's.

  • This is a role where the tech could be pulling the cable, installing, terminating, repairing, and maintaining. This also involves equipment installation such as network devices and patch panels, building out racks, and troubleshooting existing issues.

  • This Tech will be dealing with all types of circuits, from POTS to fiber networks.

  • Candidates need to be very professional and self motivated.

• Install various network cabling infrastructure in a data center environment including but not limited to structured cabling (CAT 3/CAT 5/CAT 6 copper, fiber and coaxial), patch panels and wire management systems.

• Coordinate, install and test premises equipment in a datacenter environment including but not limited to PDU’s, computers, switches, routers, optics, wireless access points, and other transport equipment.

• Utilize industry standard cable test procedures and equipment for various cabling systems including wire mapping, OTDR, Network Analyzer, Visual Fault Locator.

• Certify installed cable utilizing industry standards including end to end attenuation testing, OTDR, OLTS, TIA/EIA-526-7, TIA/EIA-526-14 as well as additional standards and methods not mentioned herein.

• Create design layout records (D.L.R.) for all installations within a web based environment.

• Perform remote hands assistance including but not limited to:

o Vendor escorts

o Device rack and stack

o Hard drive installation and replacement

o RAM installation and replacement

o Utilizing remote terminal interfaces

o Implement clean, efficient, industry standard cabling

o Conducting various media testing including fiber and copper using a multitude of testing equipment

• Effectively coordinate, interact and perform troubleshooting actions with customers

• Act as point escalation for higher level events.

• Provide quality, timely and accurate end-to-end support of any issues within functional area of responsibility.

• Provide world class customer service to all customers and vendors.

• Provide peer to peer coaching/training; mentoring.
