POSITION: Billing Clerk (Part-Time or Full-Time)

Barry-Eaton District Health Department (BEDHD) is seeking a Billing Clerk to provide Medicare, Medicaid, and 3^rd^ party insurance billing service for our patients in Barry and Eaton Counties. The position supports accounts receivables and provides administrative support, as needed.

This position is based out of our Charlotte, MI office. We are seeking candidates who are interested to work either full-time or part-time (32 hours/week minimum) .

In the Billing Clerk role you will have the opportunity to: 

  • Post cash receipts from Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance to appropriate accounts in assigned program areas. Check for accuracy of payment and credits accounts accordingly.
  • Monitor client accounts through a variety of reports; ensure documents are completed for appropriate client billing. Adjust and record all related documents, orders, charges for services rendered, and related fees.
  • Determine the actions needed to follow claim collection to completion.
  • Compile, print, review, correct, and generate bills to third party insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid programs.
  • Contact insurance companies related to billing and denial questions.
  • Assure alignment with insurance billing requirements, billing contracts with insurances, and Medical Director requirements.
  • Verify BEDHD receipts and deposits.
  • Retrieve incoming mail and prepare outgoing mail for the organization.
  • Deliver weekly deposits to the courthouse.
  • Prepare invoices for Division programs and month end, upon request.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheet tracking shared expenditures.
  • Reconcile petty cash, restocks, and handle money collection for both counties.

Ideal Candidates will possess:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) months of accounting related experience
  • Six (6) months of general office, administrative, or similarly related experience
  • Six (6) months of experience in medical billing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of accounting systems (e.g. Sage, etc.)
  • Knowledge of and experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Records)
  • Ability to manage a multi-line phone system and emails
  • Ability to use the internet to research and download information
  • Ability to learn and use new software using manuals or online help
  • Ability to travel for business using personal transportation
  • Ability to accurately communicate public health messaging as it relates to immunizations, communicable diseases, and emerging health issues
