Supplemental Information

LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of Wildlife exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana's wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness.

MAINTENANCE FOREMAN

The incumbent for this position works under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Manager B to maintain facilities, grounds, and equipment throughout the 79,000 acres of Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge facility complex consists of 12 buildings (total of 50,000 ft' covered and enclosed by exterior walls) that provides support for maintenance and management of 15 wetland habitat units ranging in size from 80 to over 7,000 acres, 8 large diesel pumps housed in individual sheds, 45 water control structures, and a 250-mile levee system. Inventory of equipment and expendable materials are valued over $5 million and facilities at over $20 million. The Maintenance Foreman is responsible for supervising maintenance staff, conducting annual inventories, and construction oversight of contractors working on the Refuge. The Refuge is in a coastal environment where mosquitoes and other pests are common. Climatic conditions and semi-fluid soils unique to this area make already strenuous maintenance jobs more physically demanding. This job meets level 5 of the ADA, i.e., climbing, lifting objects over 50 pounds, and performing work periodically demanding more than ordinary endurance.
