Maintenance Technician (multi-craft)

Performs basic electrical/mechanical troubleshooting installations and repairs. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities as assigned. These tasks are done to ensure that equipment and buildings are maintained to a high level of dependability.

Daily supervision is required to assure that specific job assignments are completed in a safe and timely fashion. To ensure that work performed is a present skill level and abilities are present to advance to a higher craft level in the future.

  • Must be supportive and involved in GPI efforts for LEAN, 5’s, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement programs and processes.

  • Strives to clearly understand customer requirements and delivers results to meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Ability and responsibility to stop any process that is not meeting food safety requirements.

  • Ability and responsibility to stop any process that is not meeting customer quality requirements. Works in a safe manner and assures co-workers work in a safe manner. Reports safety hazards immediately to appropriate individual. Continues to expand safety awareness by participating in annual safety training programs.

  • Performs basic electrical/mechanical preventive maintenance to assure minimum machine downtime.

  • Performs electrical/mechanical component replacement, assuring compliance with work order instructions.

  • Resolves electrical/mechanical emergency breakdowns on equipment to minimize downtime.

  • Performs electrical/mechanical installations as directed.

  • Create notifications on work that needs to be completed with parts added.

  • Close out work orders when work has been completed.

  • Review incoming Maintenance Notifications and Revise as needed.

  • Maintains adequate records of work performed on equipment and corrective action taken.

  • Displays good work habits that will set good examples for co-workers. Continually monitors and maintains work areas to keep them clean and well organized.

  • Responsible for compliance with all facility food safety, food defense, and quality policies and procedures including product safety (GMPs)/Sanitation policies and procedures. Employee must continually work to promote the orderliness and cleanliness of their work area in support of 5’s and other company standards.

  • Must be supportive of GPI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values (Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork).

  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of the safe use and care of tools.

  • Knowledge and use of lock out / tag out procedures.

  • Knowledge of basic industrial electricity high and low voltage AC/DC.

  • Ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams.

  • Basic Computer skills, data entry.

  • Practice good housekeeping.

  • Obey all safety rules, regulations, and policies.

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or General Education degree (GED); vocational school; demonstrated mechanical ability; six or more months related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must have knowledge of industrial electricity, pipefitting, water, gas air, and hydraulic lines.

  • Must have a good working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatics.

  • Regularly required to stand for long periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.

  • Good hand -eye coordination is essential.

  • Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.

  • Frequently exposed to fumes, or airborne particles.

  • Must work near moving mechanical parts, and occasionally in outside weather conditions.

  • Exposure to extreme heat, cold and humidity for short periods of time.

  • Rotating 3-2-2 Schedule (rotating days of the week)

  • 12-hour shifts (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM)
