Air Education and Training Command MAINTENANCE WORKER in Goodfellow AFB, Texas

Summary The primary purpose of this position is to perform facility maintenance work primarily involving two or more of the trades which perform maintenance and repair of facilities such as buildings. Structures, grounds, and related fixtures and utilities, as well as assisting with carpentry, plumbing, and painting worker duties in the installation, modification, and repair of buildings, structures, and other construction projects. Responsibilities Performs the simpler aµd more routine tasks of the plumbing trade. Performs simpler and more routine carpentry duties. Performs simpler and more routine duties of the air conditioning equipment trade. Provides support for all crafts in the Operations and Maintenance(O&M) section. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance & Operations Work Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-4749 MAINTENANCE WORKER more than normal without supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to learn and willingness to assist higher grade workers by obtaining, carrying, lifting, and positioning parts, equipment and tools. 2. Ability to learn and utilize knowledge of applicable safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Ability to read, and follow directions, guidelines, drawings, specifications, and interpret sketches and illustrations to assist higher level workers. 4. Ability to learn and perform common, less complex plumbing trade tasks, including ability to use common band tools and portable power tools associated with the trade. 5. Ability to learn limited woodworking techniques to assist in assembling, installing, and repairing items or structures, including operation and maintenance of simple band and power tools such as sanding, sawing, and drilling equipment. 6, Ability to work as a member of a team to assist other crafts and trades personnel during work assignments. Physical Effort The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 70 pounds unassisted and over 70 ponds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, cramped areas, or confined spaces where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. Working Conditions The employee works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures and in cramped areas or confined spaces. Conditions are often dirty, dusty, greasy, hot, wet, or cold. Exposed to blood-borne pathogens. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devises when there is a possibility of exposure to noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Subject to possible bums, cuts and injury from falls. May be required to wear safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats and other personal protective equipment. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
