Colorado School Of Mines Post-Doctoral Fellow - Mechanical Engineering - Continuous C in Golden, Colorado

Engineering a world of possibilities Post-Doctoral Fellow - Mechanical Engineering - Continuous Casting Center The Continuous Casting Center (CCC), directed by Professor Brian G. Thomas, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher to conduct research on computational modeling of the continuous casting of steel. Visa sponsorship is available for this position if needed. This posting may be used to fill multiple openings.

Primary Responsibilities:

Conduct research on the continuous casting of steel that is of practical interest to industry, by combining computational modeling with validation data from plant experiments provided by interested steel companies

Prepare and submit journal publications on this research, under the direction of Professor Thomas

Provide leadership and mentoring of other researchers (graduate, undergraduate students, and visitors) in the CCC in the candidate's areas of expertise

Prepare and make presentations to industry on this research

Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Mechanical Engineering ,Metallurgical engineering, or a similar engineering field

Proven knowledge of computational modeling software involving heat transfer, computational fluid dynamics and/or stress analysis, such as Ansys Fluent and / or Abaqus

Previous experience conducting research involving process modeling, applying computational modeling to real world problems

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to above):

Knowledge and experience in computer programming (eg Fortran, Matlab, C, python, etc)

Knowledge of computational methods such as finite-difference and/or finite element methods

Other relevant experience such as expertise and experience in metallographic analysis, running laboratory water model experiments (the CCC lab features a 1/3 scale water model of the continuous casting process), and / or commercial plant measurements.
