Overview

Kemin is hiring a Senior Project Manager to manage the construction of an animal vaccine facility. This position will work within the Corporate Engineering department and will work closely with Kemin stakeholders for this project.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years experience in construction project management including experience building an animal vaccine facility. The projected length of this project is two years.

Candidates must be located in the greater Kansas City area.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with safety, design, budget, and schedule. This includes interfacing with Kemin.

  • Work and communicate well with all parties involved.

  • Lead project team meetings and steering committee meetings.

  • Reads and understands contract plans and specifications. Has a full understanding of project scope of work, construction materials and methods and contracts.

  • Thorough understanding of requirements related to all Authorities Having Jurisdiction including zoning approvals, plan approvals, permitting, environmental approvals, fire protection approvals, special inspections requirements, etc.

  • Directs and coordinates activities to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget.

  • Provide ongoing status reports - develop,review, and obtain confirmation of financial and project schedule activities for design and construction as they relate to all disciplines involved and report to management.

  • Assure that the design and construction teams comply with the agreements, contract documents and established schedule and budget.

  • Enforce corporate safety policies.

  • Attend and/or lead regular preconstruction design meetings, virtual design coordination meetings, and weekly OAC construction meetings.

  • Maintain official project documentation files, photo documentation, inspection records, etc. on each project.

  • Ensure contractors capture and maintain project as-built record documents and other close-out documents.

  • Participate in negotiations involving Kemin, contractors and/or subcontractors and other vendors.

  • Assist in the commissioning activities and documenting results.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for working with contractors, sub-contractors, and finance.

  • Has worked with or understands stage gate approval process approach to projects.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or industrial engineering

  • 10+ years of experience in Construction Project Management

  • Experience in animal vaccine facility design and manufacturing, upstream and downstream (e.g. fermentation, fill finish) or similar industrial facilities.

  • Excellent understanding of construction materials and methods and best practices.

  • Experience handling larger and more complex CAPEX projects including projects experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of industry software, scheduling programs, Excel, Word, Power Point, and others.

  • Proficient in MS Project or other project management software.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of company leadership.

  • Supervisory skills of field construction personnel.

  • Demonstrated experience as a project team player, leader, and motivator.

  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with challenging problems, setting strategies, and prioritizing and implementing appropriate programs.

  • Ability to coordinate input from numerous customers.

  • Demonstrated experience in detailed work planning, prioritizing, and resource assignment.

  • Demonstrate conflict resolution.

  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and cohesive team spirit between Operations, Design Team, Contractors and Subcontractor work groups.

  • Demonstrated leadership and commitment to operational excellence, and incident and injury free performance.

  • Knowledgeable in site-specific safe work practices, legislative requirements, and standards.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English.

  • 15% of travel may be required.
